MOVEMENT SOLUTIONS Qualifications, Professional History and Experience

Kathy graduated in 1994 from Sydney University with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy) and is a member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association.

She initially gained general physiotherapy experience in the public hospital system working in intensive care, orthopaedics, medical and surgical wards, rehabilitation and the out-patient department.  She then remained in the out-patient department treating acute and chronic conditions, conducting hydrotherapy classes and addressing women’s health issues including incontinence, pre and post natal problems, pregnancy and back care.

Kathy developed a passion for education, not only for the prevention of illness, but also for the management of existing problems.  She therefore became involved in respiratory education programs and conducted classes to provide exercises, support, advice and management strategies on coping with chronic respiratory conditions.

In addition she has done presentations to various local groups about osteoporosis, pelvic floor issues, back care and pre and post-natal issues.  General strengthening and flexibility exercises are a feature of these presentations.

Kathy’s initial involvement in Paediatric Physiotherapy began in 2002 as a mother, when her own son required some specialist care and physiotherapy intervention. She experienced first hand, the benefits an exercise program has in the improvement of physical and social development, achieving goals, improving self esteem, and aiding participation in a variety of activities.

Wanting to help other children achieve the same benefits, Kathy began work at Movement Solutions in 2005.  Here she has been working in the gym with children and their families to develop and implement individually tailored exercise programs to encourage the development of strength, balance and co-ordination.  These programs are written in consultation with other physiotherapists or specialists who may be involved in the child’s management.  This provides a continuum of care and ensures that all their needs are being addressed.
