Melissa Locke

Melissa Locke is one of Brisbane’s most respected physiotherapists working with children and has worked with such children for nearly twenty years. Her problem solving and practical approach to treatment can assist children and parents in achieving their movement goals. Melissa is the owner and Director of Movement Solutions.
Qualifications, Professional History & Experience
Melissa was awarded a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Queensland. She has been on the board of the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) for the last 4 years, and is currently the National Vice President. In 2010, she has chaired the Audit and Risk Committee of the APA. She was a member of the committee in 2009 and also chaired the Member Governance and Engagement Review Task Group in 2009. She is currently studying a Certificate in Governance Practice and Administration with the Chartered Secretaries Australia. In 2011, Melissa will become the National President of the APA.
Melissa is an Associate Lecturer at Griffith University. She is on the Pediatric Curriculum Advisory Committee for Griffith University. She is also on the Strategic Advisory Group for the Physiotherapy school at Bond University.
Melissa commenced her career in 1985 when she worked at the Mater Hospital and developed a love for working with children. After 6 years in the public health system, Melissa set up a private practice with a special interest in children.
In 2008, Melissa became the first clinical Paediatric Fellow of the Australian College of Physiotherapists. Melissa still loves the challenge of problemsolving tricky patients and loves the rich rewards of seeing children achieve their best.
She is committed to teaching young physiotherapists, families and children the principles of physiotherapy intervention in a functional and fun setting.
Area of Expertise
As well as this Melissa developed knowledge in sports injury management and has combined this with paediatrics to have a focus on biomechanical, orthopaedic and sports related conditions.
She has been a Consultant Physiotherapist to the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) for Cycling, Kayaking, Archery and Disabled Sport.
Melissa has provided advice to and worked on many State and National projects looking at safe and healthy participation of children in sport. She strongly believes in incidental physical activity as a way of improving children’s fitness. She believes that all children – regardless of their physical or intellectual standing – should have the opportunity to fitness and activity via sports and leisure.
